Winifred Teresa (Barboza) Pereira, 83, of New Bedford, died Monday, April 30, 2012, surrounded by her family after a long illness. She was the wife of the late Urbano "Herbie" Pereira.
Winifred was a 1946 graduate of New Bedford High School and a graduate of the Campbell School of Business. She was formerly employed by Parkwood Hospital and United Motors of New Bedford. She was an avid writer and enjoyed fundraising for the March of Dimes. She had been a member of Woman's Club of New Bedford.
She was the daughter of Charles M. and Alice M. (Newcomb) Barboza, and sister of the late Charles E. Barboza. She was a life long resident of New Bedford and in her earlier years enjoyed spending summers at her home on Long Pond in Lakeville.
She is survived by nieces and nephews, Charles Barboza, Jr. (Chuck Dade) of New Bedford, Linda O'Brien of Raynham, Brian Barboza of Bristol RI, Marlene Haley of Marshfield, and Lori Longworth of Taunton; her sister-in-law, Naomi Barboza; several great-nephews and great-nieces; and two great-great-nieces and a great-great-nephew.
Her Funeral Mass will be celebrated on Monday at 11 AM at the Holy Name of The Sacred Heart of Jesus Church. Burial will follow in St. Mary's Cemetery. Visiting hours will be on Sunday from 4-7 PM at the Saunders Dwyer Home for Funerals, 495 Park St., New Bedford.
